OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE FOR SCHOOLS...

Open source softwares are now getting attentions to humankind for the fact that it allows the user to copy and redistribute the code, less expensive and can also offer freedom from complicated licensing. Having open source software is a great help in achieving good quality ICT result for a free cost.

By being one of the cheapest and known as one of the schools who provide sustainable graduates in the country, we need to aim high when it comes to adapting software which will be used in school wherein it must be in high quality and adhere to open standards. But because we are living in the world with fast rising technologies, open source software are widely introduce to schools and any other institutions for the students to provide their needs and help schools in making them effective and sustainable. Having this kind of software can be one of the solutions for organizing poor technology budget in our school.

Our school can suggest ways to their students on how to use this open software. Our school can easily adapt to this concept by simply introducing this open source software to students and discuss to them their advantages and how they can help in enhancing their knowledge in the field of technology which will be one of the way for them to realize that they can also take part in making our technology world grow even better.

GREEN CAMPUS COMPUTING

A person uses computers in many ways because it shortens day-to-day life. Due to fast development of technology, computer use becomes more pervasive and so do the opportunities of misuse. Green Campus computing is a project that tells how these computing technologies causes environmental impact. In schools, we usually tend to enjoy the use of computers not even knowing that the more we are using these devices the more it is accountable for increasing school’s power consumption. Even though we benefit a lot from this we must be also aware of its consequences.
Turning off computers when not in use is the easiest way of saving energy. Recycling unused gadgets and minimizing the use of screensavers when the computer is not actively in use can also be a great help in achieving lower energy use.

It will be an easy thing for us to adapt to this kind of scheme because our school have less computer facilities. So there are lots of chances to lessen our school’s electricity consumption by not restraining ourselves in enjoying the features of these technologies. The increase in consumption of electricity can tear down our natural resources for the reason that its production is the major source of air pollution. Because the more we generate electricity the more it emits gases which in turns cause global warming and smog which we are suffering nowadays. We must act now or sooner than we think.
By doing this green computing habits we can help save our natural resources and improve air quality. So let us start saving energy and be ener
gy-conscious. Let’s start from our self and be a model in saving because as IT students, we are bound to be the one who tend to use these technologies more often.
